Successful businessman Joe Benjamin has admittedly had a wonderful life. He has a successful business selling boxes while living with his family in their beautiful Long Island mansion. Joe, being a devout religious man, attributes all of his success and happiness to the big “G” himself: God. But when an eccentric messenger from God visits Joe, all hell breaks loose! Joe, God’s favorite servant, is being put to the test; he must either renounce his faith in God or suffer severe consequences.

• Joe Benjamin: The pious patriarch and successful businessman who refuses to renounce God despite immense suffering.
• Sidney Lipton: A “messenger from God” (who calls himself a “God’s favorite”) tasked with tempting Joe and testing his faith.

She Kills Monsters tells the story of Agnes Evans as she leaves her childhood home in Ohio following the death of her teenage sister, Tilly. When Agnes finds Tilly’s Dungeons & Dragons notebook, however, she finds herself catapulted into a journey of discovery and action-packed adventure in the imaginary world that was her sister’s refuge. This high-octane dramatic comedy laden with homicidal fairies, nasty ogres, and 90s pop culture offers a heart-pounding homage to the geek and warrior within us all.

Key Characters in She Kills Monsters:

• Agnes Evans: The protagonist. A high school teacher in her 20s navigating grief and trying to understand her sister, Tilly, by playing her game module.
• Tilly Evans/Tillius the Paladin: Agnes’s sister who died in a car accident. In the game, she is a powerful, lesbian, and confident Paladin
• Chuck “DM” Biggs: A nerdy high schooler who helps Agnes navigate Tilly’s D&D game.
• Lilith Morningstar/Lilly: A demon queen and part of Tilly’s D&D party, portrayed as the group’s “muscle”.
• Kaliope Darkwalker/Kelly: An elven rogue/wizard known for her agility and intelligence in the game world.
• Orcus/Ronnie: The Demon Lord of Underworld who is lazy but strong, and part of the party.
• Miles: Agnes’s boyfriend, who is often insensitive and insecure regarding Tilly’s influence on Agnes.
• Steve: A dorky mage who frequently gets in the way of the adventurers in the game.
• Vera/Evil Tina/Evil Gabbi: Agnes’s best friend (Vera) and the “succubi cheerleaders” who represent antagonistic forces in the game world.

In that most idealized period of 20th-century America, the Eisenhower years of the 1950s, the Pazinski family has a lot going on in their cramped Buffalo apartment. The youngest of the bunch, 12-year-old Rudy, is a smart, wise-cracking kid who‘s starting to question family values and the Roman Catholic Church. When Rudy goes up against the ruler-wielding Sister Clarissa and announces that instead of being confirmed he‘d rather shop around for a more “fun” religion, all hell breaks loose.

• Rudy Pazinski (12): The inquisitive protagonist, witty and analytical, who challenges Sister Clarissa and conventional Catholic teachings.
• Chet Pazinski: The father, who runs the tavern, holds traditional views, and is tough on his children.
• Ellen Pazinski: The mother, striving to keep the family together amidst the chaos.
• Eddie Pazinski (15): The rebellious teenager trying to navigate life, often serving as both a protector and a typical antagonistic older brother.
• Annie Pazinski (16): The oldest sibling, dealing with her own adolescent insecurities and taking on a maternal role.
• Georgie Pazinski (13): A developmentally delayed younger brother who is high-spirited and communicates through gestures and occasional words.
• Sister Clarissa: The strict, ruler-wielding nun at St. Casimir’s school who clashes with Rudy.
